On this beautiful Saturday morning, I took a walk to run errands and spend some time by the river. After admiring the ducks and doing a few stretches, I headed back.
Before leaving the Riverwalk, I noticed a bug on my top in the bathroom at Valade Park. My initial reaction was to brush him off- so I did.
After he landed in the sink, he was upside down and started to drown. Old me would have ran the water and let him go down the sink- but something in me has changed. An awareness for life and the world around me. Some would call it a spiritual awakening, others would call it compassion; it’s all the same.
I grabbed some paper from the stall and scooped him out of the sink, unsure if he was still alive. He was! I started walking and spotted a plant by the building to take him. He happily moved around on the leaf and I knew my little act was complete.
Sure, it may just be a bug, but to me he represented hope and a second chance at life. I know I was given that grace- even when I caused my family and friends so much pain for so many years.
Now I am living this life to the fullest; tomorrow is never a promise. Although we can’t re-do the past, we all can do our best in each present moment.
